A non Chex Systems bank is not going to check the list to see if you have had a bad credit history with a checking account. Although Chex Systems is a very popular tool for banks to use to do a background check on potential customers, it does not mean that all banks use it. Some banks will simply not check at all, or some banks would pull a credit check instead. Most all of the large banks use Chex Systems, and as you have already experienced, it is not good to be on this list. To make life easier while on the Chex System list, you should first start out by getting a new checking account. There are a lot of non Chex Systems banks where you can apply for a new checking account online. Make sure you compare some of the different checking accounts before you decide on one. The more well known the bank is, the better off for you. After you get a new checking account with a non Chex System bank, your next goal is to have your name removed from the list. If you do not do anything, your name will stay on Chex Systems for a full 5 years. Chex Systems, which is the company, can give you a free copy of what your report looks like. If there are any errors on this report, you should dispute it right away. It will take approximately 30 days for them to respond to you with a letter. If everything on your Chex Systems report is correct, you should start working on paying your debt back. Some banks will actually negotiate and work with you if you are not able to pay the full amount back. You want to pay your debt off and ask for them to remove your name from the Chex Systems list.

When looking for a non Chex Systems bank, it is best to apply for accounts online if you cannot find a local bank that does not use Chex Systems. If you can, it is always a good idea to have more than one bank account just in case you have another mistake. Although the last thing you want to happen is lose another checking account, it is just a smart idea to always have bank accounts at different banks.
